Different types of 3D Printing Materials

The new technology has really been fast and rapid. Though printing is an ancient technique but 3D Printing is something new and different.

What is 3D Printing?

3D as we know is a three dimensional process. 3D Printing is the manufacturing of such objects for digital files. Though these kind of different process in printing can be achieved only by additive process. In 3D Printing the object can be created through laying it down in layers successively until the desired object is created and for that we need 3D Printing Materials. The layers of the object is visible in a cross sectional pattern. Also there are different types of technology used by different 3D printers. There are many additive process used for the printing, mainly the layering process to come up with the final objects. There are other methods to this that use softening and melting of materials for producing the layers. The two processes like SLS and FDM that is Selective laser sintering and fused deposition modeling respectively are used for such process in 3-D printing as well. Also the other method that can be used in 3-D printing is through curing a photo reactive resin with a UV laser or through other common source that creates one layer at a time. The most common method used is called stereo lithography.

PLA Filament

3-D Printing Materials

The 3-D printers uses different types of printing materials like plastics, resins, metals, ceramics and more. Widely used material among it is plastic. Mostly of you see the desktop and printers at home use plastics to print objects. But the other high end printers can use different types of 3D Printing materials for printing too. As said, the most common material used in the printing is the plastic which comes especially at low cost and is print using a technology called FFF, known as fused Filament fabrication  such kind of printers print through special material known as PLA Filament.

PLA Filament

PLA known as polylactic acid is the most easy and commonly used method required for 3-D Printing. The PLA Filament is an eco friendly material that is safe to use and it is a biodegradable material too. This thermoplastic has been derived from the renewable resources like the corn starch and sugar canes. Therefore using the PLA Filament material makes it cost effective and easy to use. Because of the material the 3-D Printing has also become easy and at low cost too.
